2011 Rock the Dress Contest

Okay, time for my second Rock the Dress Contest!

Read the posts below for general ideas.

These are the general rules/guidelines:

1. One winner will be drawn on January 1st, 2012.

2. Session will take place on a weekend afternoon, about 2 hours before sunset.

3. Location for the shoot will be somewhere in the East Valley in Arizona - Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek.

4. I can use my favorite images on my blog and you can have the best ones on CD.

2010 Rock the Dress Contest Winners from 2010

Stephanie and Matt are from Edmonton, Canada, but were out here in Arizona for vacation. I met them in Queen Creek for photos. They were married last year, but Stephanie dressed up in her wedding dress again so that we could get some fun, creative, beautiful images of her and her new husband. I loved how they turned out.

I was trying to make this one (above) look like a platinum print. In my college photography classes I did some platinum-palladium printing and I think platinum would look so beautiful for wedding photography. So this is my try at creating a digital platinum-like image. Not exactly like platinum, but reminiscent of it, maybe. I think some day I want to do real platinum printing of wedding photos!

Stephanie told me that she had been in a wedding that Jesh de Rox photographed. I really love his work, so it was very interesting to hear what it was like to have him photograph a wedding that she was in.

For a lot of the images below, I tried different filters and actions to create different looks. So while I usually try to be really consistent with the post-processing of my images, this time I was trying new things and having fun coming up with different looks.

We drove to a dry creek full of yellow flowers, just as the sun was setting.

Thanks Stephanie and Matt! I had so much fun with you guys! :) I'm so glad you found me online, Stephanie and were up for these Rock the Dress/ Day After photos! I'm so glad you were willing to transport your wedding dress all the way from Edmonton too!

Ok confession time.

I kinda forgot that I had created this contest.

Things got CRAZY with Christmas and by crazy I mean I got sick and my family got sick. Different kinds of sick: food poisoning, bronchitus, larengitus, fever...you really don't want to know the gross details. 

So let's move on!

Rock the Dress Contest

Love the Dress! Work the Dress! Show off the Dress!

I've seen lots of different ways to describe the type of photography done with brides and grooms some time after their wedding to get some creative, fun and beautiful photography in creative, fun and beautiful (or urban, grunge-y and unique) places. Trash the Dress seems like the most common way to describe it. If you have ever wanted to get that kind of photography done, here is a chance for you to win a Rock the Dress photo shoot.

Enter my new contest for Rock the Dress wedding photography by leaving a comment in the comments section. Two winners will be chosen. One winner will be chosen at random (pulling-a-name-out-a-hat style). Another winner will be chosen because I love her (or his) idea the most.

Some general information:

Who? You in your beautiful wedding gown.

Who else? Your husband, if you want! (Let him know he doesn't have to get back into a suit--unless he wants to). Jeans or whatever he would like to wear can work really well for this kind of photography.

And who else? Brenda and her sister Becky, your photographers.

What? If you want to get Trash the Dress photography done, leave a comment about the style of the shoot with details like where we would meet up, what time of day (sunrise maybe? night time? sunset?), stuff you might include in your shoot (your bicycle? your horse? red boots? sparklers? a kite?), a theme for the shoot if you have one, that sort of thing.

Where? Multiple locations, somewhere in Arizona, either in the Metro Phoenix area or within a 2-4 hour drive of Phoenix. You tell us. What kind of unusual, enchanting and wonderful settings can you think of for getting some show-off images of you and your dress? The sand dunes in Yuma? Your grandmother's pecan orchard? Some little ghost town in Arizona? Some old building that you have the key for?

When? The contest starts now. So leave a comment when you come up with an idea. The Contest winner will be drawn on December 26th and announced on the blog after that. The photography shoot will take place some time in the year of 2010.

Will we actually trash the dress? Well, it will probably get dusty or stained by grass and maybe wet and you will need to sign a release that you are okay with whatever might happen, but the plan will be more to show off the dress and we won't plan on anything that will require more than just getting the dress cleaned afterwards. Unless you want to. You let us know what you have in mind and that is the direction we will go in.
