From where I live near Baseline Road, you could look east past the Superstitions on Sunday and see snow-covered mountains. In the rain-cleared crisp blue skies, the snow looked SO close. And it looked like icecream. Which made me want two things: ice cream to eat and snow to play in.
So we took off to see the snow. I didn't think it would take very long to get to the snow. It seemed so close. But it was like a mirage. We just kept driving and driving. And after a while we couldn't even see the snow-covered mountains. How does that work? I can see them from my house, but they totally disappear when I drive towards them?? But we kept going, past Superior, past Oak Flat, and up to Top of the World where there was snow!!! gorgeous snow!!! We got there as the sun was setting and so I got to see what I really wanted to see: the setting sun turning the snow a pink color, making me not just want snow but every pink dessert out there like cotton candy and fruit punch and bubblegum.
We never ended up getting ice cream, but we did get tortillas to go from Los Hermanos in Superior. I still want ice cream.
