I went to photograph the Mwumba Children's Choir. Stacey Champion wanted photos of the choir. These children have the most amazing voices. A lot of times when I am creating images, I can only think in images. I suddenly can't put words together and if you say something to me, I really will have no idea what you said. My brain is just doing pictures, words just don't work. I can't remember the names for things. So, of course, my brain was doing that when I was taking photos of this choir. I had to tell myself to stop taking pictures for a minute and just stop and listen to these kids. They are incredible at what they do. And what they are do is go around the country singing and raising money for the orphanage where they live. I can't imagine being a kid and having to go be away from home in a foreign country for months at a time to make sure that your friends and family had food and a place to live and medical expenses taken care of.
I love photographing the reactions of the audience in anything I photograph. It's one of my favorite things to do.
Beautiful Stacey and her children. This image here is exactly the type of image I was hoping to get when I found out the choir would be on the roof. I knew there would just be this moment just before dark when the sky is glowing pink and purple and blue and light would be reflected in people's eyes.
