Karen and Paul are expecting a baby girl soon and wanted to get photos to document this time in their lives. When Karen emailed me about doing a shoot, I knew the perfect place to photograph Karen and her husband would be at my house. All the trees would be in bloom and we would have a lot of fun walking around and getting photos of them. We started inside, because I have always wanted to set up a backdrop like this and use it for a photoshoot. I love how they turned out. The first ones are with natural light coming through the window and the next few images are with our studio lighting.
So I had this idea that I wanted to hang streamers from the trees and have Karen and Paul stand in front of them, but it turned out to be a really windy day and the streamers were flying everywhere, so it made more sense to have Karen and Paul run through them. Thanks you guys for going along with my idea! :)
I'm so glad we planned their photo session when we did, because these blooms that come out in April only stay on the trees for a few days.
Karen was standing in the same place for both these photos below, and it was just Becky and I who moved. I love how just by moving around you get totally different images, depending on where the light is. Well I should say that Karen turned around to face the sunset in the second image, but she is in the same space.
I LOVE this one. LOOOOVE it.
At this point, it was starting to get a little darker. There's this point where the sun is almost gone and the light in the air is just magic. So amazing for photographs, but it lasts for only a few minutes. I love how colors pop and everything seems glow-y at this time.
Karen, you are absolutely gorgeous.
Just as it was getting dark, we went over to the tangerine tree. Blooms were all over the tree and the air smelled intoxicatingly of tangerine blossoms. I had hung string lights from the tree because I love the look of lights in trees. Since there are so many white blossoms, it's actually kind of hard to tell there are lights in this first one, but as it got even darker, you can tell more in the next couple images, I think.
One of the things Karen does is write. She has written a book called The Prophecy Box. It's a fairytale that Becky and I have read and we love it. You can read about it here on Karen's website. My assumption is that if your mother writes fairytales and gets them published, she will be super awesome at making up bedtime stories! Lucky baby girl!
Thank you so much Karen and Paul for having us create maternity photos for you guys! We are seriously honored that you chose us to document this awesome time in your lives and we can't wait to meet your new baby girl! :)
